Working double jobs at Pipsticks and waitressing was really starting to wear me out! I was in need of a solo road trip and some serious retail therapy when Stylecon rolled through this past Saturday at The Hangar + OC Fair and Event Center in Costa Mesa, California. This convention was just the fix I needed.
Stylecon rounds up fashionistas, beauty addicts, social media stars and big brands all under one one roof to celebrate style (duh) but it was also a motivating gathering of people who not only wanted to shop till they drop but network and learn from their peers in the fashion and beauty industries. And everyone showed up dressed to impress.
I networked with other bloggers who traveled solo to the event and we talked about our learning experiences growing our blogs and navigating this industry that does not necessarily have a beaten path to success. And we realized this more by listening to the Style Influencers, Social Media Stars / Youtubers and CEO's that spoke during the event. These amazing women all had a diverse backgrounds and stories about how they got where they are today but the message that they had in common was that they stayed on their hustle and consistency is key. Check out who was there HERE . I would list them all but it is a HUGE list of influencers!
Complimentary makeup and hair booths were available. They were styling braided hairstyles and face touch ups at the Be Glammed station when you first walked into the event. Be Glammed is an app like Uber except for makeup and beauty house calls! I waited 20 minutes in line for glitter lips at the Chic Studios area. Chic Studios is a cosmetics school with classes in New York and Los Angeles. Eyelashes, brow threading, manicure trailer. Spoiled in pampering ,walked out looking brand new.
Let's talk about shopping at the event. For me personally there was not enough clothing or accessory booths compared to the beauty brands that attended the event but the selection from the two that were there were well curated.
Topshop had the biggest selection with accessories and fantastically chosen apparel. I was excited to see some Ivy Park pieces and there was a sequined pair of boyfriend jeans I fell in love with but they lacked in size range.
The booth you could see no matter where you were in the event space was Surf Glam! With towering pink palm trees this booth stood out and had cute beach chic clothing. I was trying to behave with my spending but I couldn't help but take a gold pineapple tank top home with me.
Tickets ranged from 39$-149$ I purchased the Style Star ticket (89$) which included a Swag Bag filled with 150$ worth of product from the sponsors. This was the best swag bag I have ever received at an event to date. So much goodies from familiar brands and some brands I have never heard of. Because I really want to share everything from the swag bag and there is so much stuff I wrote a additional blog post.
Check out the swag HERE
I had a blast at Stylecon! Going with your friends or having your own solo shopping spree, I see Stylecon only getting better with the years to come. I believe this is only the second year it has been done and I recommend going next year if you are a style and beauty lover who wants the first look at emerging brands or want to meet some amazing influencers and entrepreneurs. I don't know who they will invite to speak next year but I'm excited.
