Etsy Gathering of Goodies (E.G.G)
Back in May I posted an ad on Craigslist simply looking for people in the San Luis Obispo area who were interested in fashion and wanting to collaborate. I received a couple emails and one of them was from Natalie Joy, an aspiring event coordinator from Los Angeles spending some time in the Central Coast and wanting to put together an video focusing on local Etsy shop owners in the area for her portfolio. Having recently opening my Etsy shop, Never Forget Juliet, I thought it would be a fun project to promote my shop and meet other shop owners.
Natalie brought together different types of Etsy sellers from soy candles to beaded vintage gowns and even got the Cuesta College film students involved. The Broadcast Communications class filmed us on the campus set and filmed a behind the scenes video of a photo shoot we also did for the project in Los Osos and counted for their end of semester project.
My interview starts at 12:21 and the fun behind the scenes photo shoot starts at 23:40
It was amazing that so many local sellers came together to show off their amazing products and share tricks of the Etsy trade!
"The biggest piece of advice I can give someone is to give GOOD customer service to the people who visit your online shop. They can go anywhere and you will set yourself apart from the crowd if your just treat your customers well." - Jamie E. Stehula owner of A Divas Wardrobe https://www.etsy.com/shop/ADivasWardrobe
I also got my friend Sam involved in the project and she let me style her vintage clothing during the photo shoot!
"My favorite part was meeting other Etsy sellers because your the only one I knew so it was fun to meet other people that understand the Etsy process" - Sam Armstrong owner of Porcelain Matchbox and LilyInk Designs https://www.etsy.com/shop/PorcelainMatchbox https://www.etsy.com/shop/LilyInkDesigns
When you have artist block - "Accumulate a lot of supplies and let them inspire you"- Issa Crockette owner of Surfer Beanies
Little did I know that posting on Craigslist would lead to such a fun opportunity! It was all our first times doing a project like this and I consider it a success! Whatever your heart desires get out there and go for it. Reach out to your community. You don't have to start in a big city to get started on your dreams. "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are" -Theodore Roosevelt
Enjoy some more pictures from the project and check out the credits at the end of the video for pictures from the photo shoot and info about the other sellers! Thank you-Vik
