Usually inspiration for a photo shoot comes from the clothing, for me anyway but ever since I moved to San Luis Obispo county the inspiration has been driven by location, Location, LOCATION. This area is definitely doesn't lack gorgeous views and locally known treasures.
It was my coworker who introduced me to Sunny Acres. The many faces of this 1931 abandoned building range from children's home during the Great Depression, asylum, and juvenile hall.
You are a not a local until you have visited this spooky spot at night. I am not that brave, AT ALL. Both of my visits were during the day. And I did not go inside, although we did find a way in through a hole in the roof in the front of the building and one in the back you could possibly access by climbing a neighboring tree but entering this building is NOT recommended.
Along with the ghost sightings and its dark history the building is badly decayed from the inside, nails, trash, broken dishes surround the whole area, add high amounts of asbestos and you are entering at your own risk. The outside of the building has a cold presence, despite being warmed by a perfect sunny view.
The back of this building is where I decided to set up a shoot. Its a spot that probably saw the happier moments of Sunny Acres history. The Playground.
Brennan Heil is an actress, upcoming model and SLO local who was back in the area visiting her family when she saw my Craigslist ad and contacted me to expand her, already amazing, portfolio. With a great resume of commercials, including national Visit California commercial and recently booking a tv show playing as a murderer! There is no stopping this star on the rise. She was on time(!), lovely, professional, and she just turned 18! Off to a great start in the industry. She currently lives and studies in Los Angeles.
We shot during a golden sunset. Playing with the natural light. Vintage fringe jacket was thrifted.
Brennan says her memorable moment during the shoot was leaping in the foxtails and almost falling a couple times. It was definitely a fun shoot and we hope we brought some laughter and joy to the lonely Sunny Acres.
Keep up with Brennan on her FB profile
